Government Unveils Biggest Post-Service Package for Agniveers: 50% SSC GD Reservation, Direct Entry, No Written Exam, 5-Year Age Relaxation

New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at strengthening career prospects for Agniveers after their four-year military service, the Central Government has announced 50% reservation for former Agniveers in recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) under the SSC GD examination. The decision marks one of the biggest post-retirement employment packages introduced under the Agnipath scheme, providing a clear pathway from military service to central security forces. The new policy is expected to benefit thousands of Agniveers completing their tenure in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. By reserving half of the vacancies for eligible ex-Agniveers in SSC GD recruitment, the government aims to recognize their military training, discipline, and operational experience while ensuring a smooth transition into civilian security services. A key highlight of the new policy is that former Agniveers will receive direct recruitment benefits in SSC GD recruitment for Constable (General Duty) in the CAPFs and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles. Eligible candidates will be exempted from the written examination, Physical Standards Test (PST), and Physical Efficiency Test (PET), significantly simplifying the recruitment process and providing a fast-track pathway into central security forces. The Centre has also announced 50% reservation of vacancies for Ex-Agniveers in these recruitments. In addition, candidates will receive three years of upper age relaxation, while the first batch of Ex-Agniveers will be eligible for a special five-year age relaxation, recognising the unique circumstances under which the Agnipath scheme was launched. Officials say the reforms are designed to ensure that trained military personnel can seamlessly transition into the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles without undergoing the conventional multi-stage recruitment process. By recognising the skills, discipline, and operational experience gained during military service, the government aims to strengthen India’s internal security forces while offering Ex-Agniveers a secure and attractive post-service career path. In addition to the reservation, former Agniveers will continue to receive other recruitment benefits, including age relaxation and exemptions in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), giving them a competitive advantage during the selection process.
