Security Lockdown in the Capital: Delhi Metro Shuts 16 Stations Amid Heightened Security

New Delhi: In one of the largest security-related disruptions to the national capital’s rapid transit network in recent times, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has temporarily closed 16 metro stations across central Delhi, citing heightened security concerns. While entry and exit at these stations have been suspended until further notice, interchange facilities continue to remain operational at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat, allowing passengers to switch lines without exiting the stations. The closures are expected to impact thousands of daily commuters, particularly office-goers, students, and visitors travelling to Connaught Place, the Central Vista, government offices, and nearby commercial districts. With several key stations shut, many passengers have been forced to alter travel plans, depend on alternate metro routes, or switch to road transport, resulting in heavier traffic congestion across central Delhi. According to the DMRC, the decision was taken solely as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing security situation. The closures will remain in effect until further instructions from the security agencies.
