Shamli Was Once a Subject of Curiosity’: Yogi Adityanath Highlights City’s Transformation from Terror Shadow to Development Hub
Shamli: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that Shamli, once known across the country for concerns related to crime and insecurity, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a district driven by development, investment, and improved law and order. Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister remarked that there was a time when people viewed Shamli with curiosity because of its troubled reputation, but today it is being recognised for its progress and growing economic potential. Recalling the district’s past, Yogi Adityanath said Shamli had once been associated with fear, criminal activity, and security challenges that discouraged investment and hindered growth. Over the past several years, however, the state government has focused on strengthening law enforcement, improving infrastructure, and creating an environment conducive to economic development. The Chief Minister asserted that firm action against organised crime and anti-social elements has significantly improved the district’s security landscape. According to him, better policing and effective governance have restored public confidence, enabling businesses to expand and citizens to pursue opportunities without fear. Highlighting the district’s developmental journey, Yogi said Shamli is now witnessing improvements in road connectivity, public infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. The government has also worked to modernise civic amenities while accelerating projects aimed at boosting regional connectivity and rural development. The Chief Minister further noted that Shamli’s strong agricultural base, particularly its sugarcane economy, continues to play a vital role in western Uttar Pradesh’s growth. Measures to support farmers, improve irrigation, modernise sugar mills, and strengthen market access have contributed to higher rural incomes and greater economic activity across the district. Yogi Adityanath also emphasised that improved law and order has encouraged private investment and generated employment opportunities for local youth. He said that development and security go hand in hand, and sustained governance reforms have helped transform the perception of districts that were once viewed as challenging. Political observers say the Chief Minister’s remarks reflect the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader narrative of linking enhanced security with economic development. The administration has consistently argued that strict action against criminal networks has created a more favourable environment for infrastructure projects, industrial investment, and public welfare initiatives across the state. Residents of Shamli have witnessed visible changes in recent years, including expanded road networks, improved public services, and greater administrative outreach. While developmental challenges remain, the district is increasingly being recognised for its agricultural strength, strategic location in western Uttar Pradesh, and improving connectivity with the National Capital Region. Concluding his address, Yogi Adityanath said Shamli’s journey demonstrates how determined governance and sustained development can transform the identity of a region. Once remembered for uncertainty and security concerns, the district, he said, is now steadily emerging as a symbol of progress, opportunity, and modern growth in western Uttar Pradesh.
